Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common question about our services and process
What can I expect during my first session of therapy?
Your initial session offers a chance to connect with me, share why you’re seeking therapy, and explore your history and goals. It’s also a time to ask questions and see if my approach suits your needs.

How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions depends on your unique needs and goals, ranging from short-term to longer-term support. I’ll review progress with you regularly, adjusting the plan as needed.

Do you offer online therapy?
Yes, I provide online therapy sessions for added flexibility and accessibility, serving as an effective option for those with busy schedules or mobility challenges.

Why choose Brighter Paths for neurodiversity assessments?
At Brighter Paths, assessments are grounded in both clinical and educational psychology, offering a uniquely comprehensive perspective. With extensive experience in neurodevelopment and active work within an NHS neurodevelopmental service, I'm up to date with current best practices, NICE guidelines, and diagnostic standards.
What sets this service apart is the extra level of thoroughness, including use of the QbCheck (a validated attention and activity test) and the option for a school or educational consultation to ensure a well-rounded understanding of your or your child’s needs.

How long does an ADHD assessment take?
An ADHD assessment typically takes a full day to complete initial interviews and gather key information from both the individual and a parent or caregiver. However, the overall process may take longer, depending on factors like questionnaire completion, school availability, or additional consultation needs. A comprehensive written report and feedback session are included in the process.

What ADHD questionnaires do you use?
We use the gold-standard, evidence-based tools for assessing ADHD characteristics. Depending on the individual being assessed, this may include: a parent-rated questionnaire; a teacher/school-rated questionnaire; and a self-report questionnaire (where appropriate) amongst others.

Can you provide medication?
No, we do not prescribe medication. If a diagnosis is confirmed and medication is something you wish to explore, you will need to seek this through your GP, a private psychiatrist, or your local NHS service. We provide a comprehensive diagnostic report to support your referral and help inform the next steps in your treatment journey.
